Jan 18, 2022 · Apparently Silicon Dust hasn't put much effort into their Roku channel, so there are some issues with watching one of the ATSC 3.0 channels. First, in case you weren't aware, the ATSC 3.0 standard requires using Dolby AC-4 as the audio codec. There's only one Roku that supports that codec, which is the Ultra 4800.

Dec 21, 2022 · I just read a post on the SD forum, and there is a licensing issue with ATSC 3.0 stations. Some stations are turning on DRM, and they are making it difficult for SD products to view ATSC 3.0 stations that have done so. I wouldn't think that would impact it working on ATSC 1.0 stations, but there's certainly a problem right now.
How does having ATSC 3.0 on a Roku branded TV compare.....
Dec 19, 2022 · ATSC 3.0 is the new digital over-the-air broadcast standard that will be rolling out in North America over the next few years. The significant advantages over the current standard (ATSC 1.0) will be the ability to have more channels on a specific frequency, more than 6 audio channels (currently 5.1 is the max), and will support 4K video.

QAM is only a modulation. However, when used in context of digital cable television in ATSC areas, the signal submitted over this modulation is based on ATSC.

Aug 8, 2024 · Roku needs to make a stick device that includes an ATSC 1.0 and ATSC 3.0 tuner. Allowing the stick to integrate and control Over-the-Air (OTA) channels similar to a Roku TV makes channel surfing significantly easier for the non-tech savvy users. From a friend who works with FireTV, he said Amazon is developing a device like this.

Dec 4, 2024 · The most common devices are sold by Silicon Dust, called the HD HomeRun. The version I have (HDHR 4K Flex) has four internal tuners, so different devices can connect to it and watch different OTA channels. Mine is also capable of receiving the new ATSC 3.0 signals, so can get the improved signals that level offers.
