The ATSF #6332 was professionally transformed into a new class, the SF30B [Santa Fe (SF), 3000 HP (30), B-B trucks (B)], and renumbered #7200. The new SF30B prototype had numerous physical, cosmetic, and internal changes from its humble beginnings as a U23B unit.

The SF30B is a one of a kind rebuild, which now belongs to Minnesota Commercial. ATSF saw it more effective to purchase new locomotives. The SF30B had many upgrades, the unit's horsepower was increased from 2300 to 3000 hp, as the Cleburne Shops installed a General Electric 7FDL-12F30UX prime mover.

The SF30B was a 3000hp locomotive rebuilt from a 2250hp U23B while retaining the 12-cylinder FDL prime mover. GE had achieved the same result in their B30-7A, but that model used the wider radiators of the 16-cylinder B30-7 rather than the smaller radiators of the U23B.
