From memory 10Base5 aka 'Thicknet' used a coax cable which went into the AUI port of older routers. 10Base2 aka 'Thinnet' also used a (thinner) coax cable which went into the BNC connector. The transceiver simply converts from an AUI connection to RJ45 for those who still use the legacy 2500 routers (you won't find these on the 2600's).

Basically, the option IP ADDRESS a.b.c.d is for the AUI transceiver which- now connected- makes the 2509 accessible via the network instead of via the console port. Man, i hope this helped a little Expand Post

Hi guys, Please help me. I'm running out of ideas. I have a cisco 2511 connected to my laptop - i'm still configuring it.

On the switch I have been using the AUI port when attaching the switch to the router. The switch has a 100Base-TX and 100Base-FX port. I tried attaching the 100Base-TX port to one of the routers using a straight-through cable. The link light doesn't show that the port is connected and doing a show interface fast 0/27 confirms their is no link beat.
