Atrioventricular block (AV block) is a type of heart block that occurs when the electrical signal traveling from the atria, or the upper chambers of the heart, to ventricles, or the lower chambers of the heart, is impaired.

Heart block is an issue with a heartbeat signal traveling from the top chambers of your heart to the bottom chambers of your heart. Normally, electrical signals (impulses) travel from your heart’s upper chambers (atria) to your lower chambers (ventricles).
