Die AWO 425 ist ein Motorradmodell mit Viertaktmotor, das in der DDR in zwei Versionen gebaut wurde. Die Motorräder wurden in dem Awtowelo - bzw. späteren IFA -Betrieb Simson im thüringischen Suhl gefertigt.

In 1948, the Soviet Army Administration (SMAD) ordered the plant to build a 250cc, four-stroke, sidecar motorcycle. It was the overhead-valve AWO 425. Between 1949 and 1962 the Suhl factory produced more than 209,000 motorcycles designated Type 425 (4 meaning 4-stroke and 25 its capacity, 250cc). Tanklogo 425

From 1952 to 1962 they produced the AWO 425 T model, a single cylinder 250 cc, 12 hp, four stroke, shaft drive touring model. The 425 T is very similar to the BMW R 26 of the same period.

The AWO 425 was a shaft driven, 250cc four-stroke. There were two main AWO 425 models; the T (touring model) had plunger rear suspension, while the S (sport model) had a twin-shock swingarm rear suspension. The company was formed in 1854 when Lob and Moses Simson bought one-third of a steel factory in Suhl, Germany.

The Awo/Simson 425 became the 425 T, for touring, with the launch of the greatly revised 425 S, for sport, in 1955. This machine was not intended as a machine for the masses with its sale price of 3200 Ostmarks at a time when average wages were some 500 Ostmarks per month. It was targeted at middle ranking party officials and for ceremonial use.

Out of the blue the Soviets decreed that Simson produce a 250cc 14PS single cylinder four stroke motorcycle with a unit construction 4 speed gearbox, shaft drive and enclosed telescopic suspension front and rear.

2014年12月8日 · After 1959 power went up to 15.5 horsepower. The 425 actually comes from 4 -stroke engine, 25 0cc displacement. It seems that AWO created a 425T model that was based on the BMW R23, then created the S model which was a sportier version. The bike has a dual loop tubular frame with a hydraulically damped telescopic fork and a 6V electrical system.
