The goals of AABI are to stimulate collegiate aviation program excellence and self-improvement; establish uniform minimum educational quality Criteria; and increase the credibility, integrity, and acceptance of collegiate aviation programs within institutions of higher education.

Each AABI-accredited aviation program MUST provide reliable information to the public on student success in the program, at least annually. The following Student Achievement Data MUST appear in easily accessible locations including public program websites:

The Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI) was created in 1988 at the initiative of 100 colleges and universities with aviation programs who recognized the need to establish standards and submit themselves to the review of their peers and the industry.

Specialized and professional accreditors, like the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI), accredit degree-granting programs in particular disciplines or program areas. Specialized accreditors review programs or schools/colleges within institutions.
