"Absu" in Sumerian mythology refers to a subterranean ocean. The band's in-depth approach, supervised by Proscriptor, draws heavily on occultism and ancient mythologies.

Absu is an American black / thrash metal band from Dallas, Texas. [1] Their demos and first album leaned towards death metal, but later adapted to the thrash/black sound the group would become recognized for.

After a short silence from the subversive community, Absu returned in 2001 to release their most acclaimed record to-date: Tara. Released by both Osmose Productions and Olympic Recordings/Century Media, this album provided listeners a compelling, musical and lyrical journey that no other extreme metal band had attained in a concept album.
