Acrocorinth (Greek: Ακροκόρινθος, lit. 'Upper Corinth' or 'the acropolis of ancient Corinth ') is a monolithic rock overlooking the ancient city of Corinth, Greece. In the estimation of George Forrest, "It is the most impressive of the acropolis of mainland Greece." [1]

2023年11月26日 · Acrocorinth was the Peloponnese’s most significant fortress. The hill is naturally somewhat secure and close to the Isthmus, so strategically important. It was occupied when ancient and medieval Corinth were important commercial centres and one of the most important Greek city states.

The steep rock of the Acrocorinth rises to the south-west of ancient Corinth, surmounted by the fortress, also called the Acrocorinth, which was the fortified citadel of ancient and medieval Corinth and the most important fortification work in the area from antiquity until the Greek War of Independence in 1821.

2018年10月12日 · Acrocorinth is a castle nestled on the steep rock of Acrocorinth and rising above the southwest of Ancient Corinth. It was the fortified acropolis for ancient and medieval Corinth. Fortification was ensured through a system of three enclosures, separated by walls, which were in turn reinforced by towers and bastions.
