Acted was present in Sudan from 2004 to 2014 and restarted its activities in the country in 2020 as a frontline humanitarian actor working on shelter and non-food items, water and hygiene, food security and livelihoods, nutrition, and protection for refugee children and women survivors of gender-based violence.

The nearly one million new arrivals to South Sudan have been driven by severe conflict in the southern half of Sudan, where the majority of Sudan’s population lives, and violent competition between armed groups for control of border areas.

On April 15th, 2023, marked the day a violent power struggle broke out in Khartoum, Sudan’s capital city between the two main warring factions; the ruling militia regime (Sudanese Armed Forces-SAF) which is currently acting as the official Army of the country and a rival paramilitary force; the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
