2018年12月5日 · So what is the Counterpoint DA-10? It's a really solid, rack-size vintage 20 bit R-2R DAC from around 1995 or so. List price back then was an absurd $1,950 with the AD1862 chip. This one has a silkscreened circuitboard dated 1992, so I think it's either an early model or a prototype. It's not a detail monster, especially compared to modern DACs.

While we were at it, we swapped the chintzy, tiny 30-year-old output coupling caps for Jantzen Superior Z-Caps which by all accounts are better caps (and cost more) than the Clarity Caps PCX uses in the SE+ upgrade path.

Interestingly, the Model S reminds me the most of the current, multibit Schiit DACs out of all these on the list in terms of overall tone, timbre, and background.

2016年4月14日 · It uses AD1860 chips as opposed to the AD1862 I have in the Atlantis (which are basically two AD1860 in one chip). I talked to Mr. Poon about piggybacking the AD1860s for me, but he said he tried it and was able to get better sound out of a single chip (he was one of the original piggybackers for the PCM63 back in the day).

2015年10月10日 · Analog Devices AD1862 UltraAnalog D20400 I have one with 4x PCM63 chips & it definitely made everything better from my previous iFi Mico iDSD. Much more separation, air, small details & bass definition. Would a AD1862 or D20400 give a better sound? I think purrin said the D20400 sounded veiled to the PCM63 in his thread on Head-fi.

2015年11月9日 · Diyinhk still sells the board with USB and i2s input and it costs $170 if you have him supply the AD1862 chips. The power supply boards are $60 each or $120 for 2. I was able to feed it with i2s from the buffered outputs of my Pi2AES and I used OP!1656 opamps for the IV/output stage, but you can roll to taste.
