The VIN of the GT-S is AE88 (for North American market cars), however the chassis code on the engine firewall remained as AE86. The Sport GT-S can also be identified by the "Q" identification on the 4th digit of the model code, found on the chassis plate.

2016年10月7日 · USDM AE86 or AE88? A VIN is something the hachiroku never got in Japan, so it never got a designation of AE86 on it’s VIN. What counts is the model code, and for both the USDM GT-S and SR-5 models that was AE86. Yes, that is correct: the SR-5 has the model code AE86, not AE85.

2003年12月13日 · VIN number 1 belongs to a 85 Toyota Corolla SR5, number 2 belongs to a 85 GTS. I'm not very familiar with the VIN number construction of Toyota (as I'm a die hard Nissan fan), but it seemed like every SR5 I came across had AE86 in its VIN number and every GTS had AE88 in its VIN number, so I assume its the chassis code for the American import.

2004年10月4日 · read the chassis code on the fire wall its stamped AE86. ive owned a 86 sr5 with an AE86 vin, but both my 86 gts's have AE88 vin. the reason its called a AE86 is the chassis code not vin# . This example is a Canadian GT-S hatchback model with the AE88 vin number (for the nerds). The Canadian GT-S trim is an extremely rare left-hand drive model which only came in the Trueno configuration and can be easily identified by the unique and iconic pop-up head lights.

The body is stamped with AE86 and the VIN (on the riveted plate) is stamped AE88. As such, legally it is considered an AE88. The GT-S is the top-rung package for these cars and only came RWD, DOHC, 5 speed and 4 wheel disc brakes.
