AES67 - Wikipedia
AES67 uses IEEE 1588-2008 Precision Time Protocol (PTPv2) for clock synchronisation. For standard networking equipment, AES67 defines configuration parameters for a "PTP profile for media applications", based on IEEE 1588 delay request-response sync and (optionally) peer-to-peer sync (IEEE 1588 Annexes J.3 and J4); event messages are ...

AES67 is a standard for high-performance audio-over-IP interoperability. By implementing the standards definitions and requirements, devices otherwise adhering to specific AoIP protocols that don’t interoperate with each other (i.e. Dante, Livewire, QLAN or RAVENNA) can establish direct connectivity and become interoperable.

In general, PTP-aware switches can usually only support one version of the PTP protocol – AES67 mandates the use of PTPv2. Since some solutions use PTPv1 for their legacy equipment (i.e. Dante), a PTP-aware switch may not properly forward those packets, effectively resulting in synchronisation problems in certain areas of the network.
