Feb 22, 2010 · Nice piece Robin on the Parker-out-of-the-closet-on-flavour issue. I tasted, about a year ago, one of the Australian shiraz that I am told he likes. It is called Mollydooker, but I cannot remember which one of the range. It has a fun, quite garish label. But the real point is the wine. I found it totally undrinkable on account of its richness, alcohol and totally "over-the-top" …

Feb 13, 2016 · Maybe the sweetness thing is an issue, but it's not an AFWE/not AFWE thing. I hear you, David, and I'd say my attitude about Riesling is more a (lack of) preference than an actual aversion.

Identical notes on the palate, with abundant, savory tomato paste notes and orange rind acidity. Full bodied with rich, lush, but fresh and juicy fruit, and a fabulous, savory texture. Rustic, but with great polish and balance. Wonderful stuff, I love it!! 3 to maybe 5 more years. 3.5 Stars [12/27/16] Here is the AFWE dream.

Sep 26, 2016 · I'm seeing an awful lot of them closing $15 to $25 European wines lately, many of the AFWE style, and I haven't had a tainted one yet. Recently got back from Oregon and had many chats about the Diam.
My three worst wine mistakes of late
May 22, 2015 · Or is the '12 just purposefully egregious? Oh, and is it still all Napa fruit (I admit I haven't even looked closely at the bottles) or is Chuckie sneaking in some of that stuff he's been growing down in Paso Robles? If the latter is the case, it would at least explain the saturated, porty flavors the AFWE's have reported.

Jun 22, 2018 · Rahsaan wrote: Not sure that means you are no longer a snob. I've actually never heard of a wine slushie (maybe that makes me the snob), but plenty of 'blended beverages' (sangria anyone) can be delicious. The trick is knowing the difference! Good points, Rahsaan. I will confess a degree of AFWE snobbery. My landlady loves Sangria. ...

Mar 18, 2015 · The quality you most desire in a wine is… Complex, earthy, lean, mineral, rational alcohol levels. Basically, the AFWE profile. Your favorite food to serve with wine is… As a carnivore, I would have said “rare steak.”

Mar 11, 2016 · Lots of big producers, less and less for the AFWE, and prices in general rising to the point where I can't justify spending for everyday wine. Even splitting a bottle over two nights still feels extravagant.
August Wine Focus: Gamay - Beaujolais and beyond
Aug 14, 2016 · We're midway in summer up here in the Northern Hemisphere as sizzling July turns into steamy August. Why not turn to a red wine that can be served chilled? Or cool, anyway; I wouldn't freeze it. Beaujolais gets a reputation as a frivolous wine, but that's not necessarily so. The Cru villages from Morgon to Fleurie to Moulin-a-Vent and beyond can definitely reward …

Jan 22, 2018 · ES is certainly not an importer who aims for the traditional/AFWE crowd. I think he generally provides decent value if you like the style, but tends towards the sweet/ripe.
