In order to get your Alaska ID card, you must bring documents to verify your name, lawful status, and physical address. You must also provide your social security number or a letter showing ineligibility. Complete a D1 application, bring documents, and fee for REAL ID card.

Beginning May 7, 2025, the Department of Homeland Security requires your driver license (DL) or identification (ID) card be REAL ID compliant if you wish to use it as identification to board a domestic flight or enter military bases and most federal facilities.

State of Alaska law requires an applicant to provide true full name, which is the name that will appear on your physical Driver License or ID card. The Alaska DMV must electronically verify your identity, citizenship and lawful status with the issuer of the document (s).

On May 7, 2025, U.S. travelers must be REAL ID compliant to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities. The Alaska Real ID is not mandatory for Alaskans with a non-commercial license.

After passing the written knowledge test or to obtain an Alaska ID you will need to present the following four documents: 1. PRIMARY DOCUMENT: Legal name and Date of Birth: • Passport (current), foreign passports must have the appropriate immigration documents. • Military Identification for active duty, retiree or reservist.
