The European badger (Meles meles), also known as the Eurasian badger, is a badger species in the family Mustelidae native to Europe and West Asia and parts of Central Asia. It is classified as least concern on the IUCN Red List, as it has a wide range and a large, stable population size which is thought to be increasing in some regions.

However, this badger had albinism, which is the absence of melanin in an animal from birth, resulting in white skin, fur, feathers, and scales, and often pink or red eyes. There are other forms of pigmentation within the badger population, which can almost give the appearance of different species: Albino badger. The photo above left shows a reddish-pink badger, known as erythristic. Erythristic badgers have a slight genetic difference to other badgers which is sometimes referred to as "rufous". The other photos show a pale coloured badger and three pure albino badgers which have cream or off white coloured fur and red eyes.

The photos above show a reddish-pink badger (known as erythristic) and a pale, faintly marked badger which appears to be a partial albino. There are cases of pure albino badger which are all cream or off white with red eyes, but they are rare. If you've got a photo of one please send it in.
