2025年3月1日 · Thanks to a former Alco Service Manager I have recently posted to the Heritage Rail Allliance (HRA) technical library a copy of Alco Bulletin HB-13 which lists more that thirty pages of maximum allowable service wear and salvage limits for many 244 engine parts.

5 天之前 · >Dave, In the early 1970's D&H 17 had a massive engine failure with it's 16cyl. 244 engine. The shop crew at Colonie installed a 12cyl 244 in the engine because they didn't have a spare.When the PA's went to M-K for rebuilding they all went with there 244 engines, except for the 17, the D&H pulled the 12cyl. 244 out to use in one of the RS-3's( it was put into the 4099).

2025年3月14日 · Don't forget the DL in Scranton,PA who has now 5 RS-3's with at least 4 in operating condition. Jerry Jacobson owns at least 1 RS-3 that came from the Ohio Central.

3 天之前 · At the time, LIRR was an all-Alco road already versed in the maintenance of 244 prime movers. A total of eight FA-1s and 11 FA-2s were converted at the GE facility in North Bergen, N.J., and put in service between 1971 and 1974, along with four EMD F-units.

2025年3月14日 · The Texas State unit was a complete RS-2 (a rare bird these days), and the 244 engine was yanked by Brookville and replaced with a Cat or Cummins--- it's not an Alco anymore. The Nevada Northern has at least 2 Kennicott Copper (?)

3 天之前 · Actually the only ALCO-GE film I recall that featured the 244 engine extensively was a piece called SHINING RAILS (no relation to the film of the same name by a major railroad) but it was mostly distant shots and had one memorable track to track run along side underway pacing sequence of Santa Fe 51 when it was brand new.
