The ALCO Century 630 is a model of six-axle, 3,000 hp (2.2 MW) diesel-electric locomotive built by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) between 1965 and 1967. It used the ALCO 251 prime mover .

2024年12月23日 · The C630 was Alco's second model in its six-axle series. Capable of producing more horsepower than its predecessor, the model sold well, but not as well as the C628 with more than 100 purchased between its Schenectady and Montreal plants.

With its muscular appearance, the C630 has a wide, boxy design typical of Alco's Centuries. It measures 69 feet 6 inches in length and weighed approximately 197 tons, depending on optional additions.

More specifically, the six-axle freight hauler was the first alternator-rectifier diesel locomotive to be placed in revenue service on a major North American railroad. An AC transmission / traction system provides significant locomotive-operation improvement.

The ALCO Century 630 is a model of six-axle, 3,000 hp (2.2 MW) diesel-electric locomotive built by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) between 1965 and 1967. It used the ALCO 251 prime mover.

Primarily used for heavy-haul road freight service throughout the US, the C-628 generated a total of 2,750 hp, and was part of the American Locomotive Company’s (ALCO) Century Locomotive Line. A total of 185 units were built by ALCO for railroads in the US, Mexico and Australia between 1963 and 1968.

Introduced in August 1963 by the American Locomotive Company, this 2,750 hp locomotive was billed as "the most powerful single-engine diesel locomotive ever built in the United States." As part of ALCo's Century Line, the C-628 was intended for heavy-haul road freight service throughout the country.

After nearly twenty years, the great Chesapeake & Ohio finally placed an order with Alco. They decided to sample four Century 630s which at the time were being built with Hi-Ad trucks. These locomotives were rarely photographed on their short duty for the Chessie, being sold to MK for rebuilding after seeing only six years of service in the states.
