ALCO's "World Locomotive", the DL500 (introduced in 1953), originated as a newly designed demonstrator based on the FA-2. The first 25 DL500s used the model 244 engine rated at 1,600 horsepower (1,200 kW).

The American Locomotive Company (ALCO), based in Schenectady, New York, United States produced a wide range of diesel-electric locomotives from its opening in 1901 until it ceased manufacture in 1969. NOTE: Where lower horsepower and single-end are desired, this locomotive can be built to ALCO specification DL-500-C (1980/1830 CV) from 15,5 metric tons (34,200 lbs.) per axle.

2022年8月1日 · Alco - The formal introduction of Alco's new DL500 "World Locomotive" occurred in mid-june 1953. Built by subsidiary Montreal Locomotive Works, the DL500 was un-mistakenly an Alco design given its low silhouette FA appearance (sans the headlight grille), tri-mount type trucks, and tell-tale ca-thunk, ca-thunk engine sound.
ALCo World: BAP's DL500C - Railfan
BAP's DL500C MLW delivered 25 broad gauge 5'6" World Locomotives to Argentina/General Mitre line, the only DL500 models built by MLW beside demonstrator 1953E (later to the RENFE). They initially carried nos. 5551 - 5575. A number of units received replacement sheetwork on the sides, see below. Four units number are still active with BAP.
