The GE U33C is a 6-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by GE Transportation Systems between January 1968 and January 1975. [1] 375 examples of this locomotive were built for 11 North American railroads and one construction contractor. 5701 was wrecked and never wore the BN Cascade Green.

All original locos were painted in the lightning stripe scheme, and #758 was the only U33C to receive the all blue and yellow nose stripes. The ex-Conrail locomotives retained their Conrail blue for some time.

1990年7月7日 · The locomotives were re-engined with the 2,000 horsepower ALCo 12-cylinder 251C engine, and the long hood was raised six inches to accommodate the larger engine. The dynamic brakes were also moved to a box behind the cab. This class was also known by their M-K designation of TE56.

2023年8月25日 · By 1972, the U33C engines were repainted into the more traditional D&H "Lightning Stripe" scheme. Ironically, the three initial SD45s were later returned to the D&H on Conrail's "Conveyance Day" in 1976 and all were then patch painted for the D&H, again with the EL's maroon repainted in blue.

2009年1月23日 · EMD’s SD45 had a 20 cylinder 645, while the GE U36C and Alco C636 offerings were able to stick with the same 16 cylinders as their 3000hp counterparts. GE also had the in-between U33C. Just wondering why the U30C, and later C30-7, were more successful than their 3300 and 3600 counterparts even though both had 16 cylinder prime movers too.
