The Snow Leopard award (Russian: Снежный барс) was a Soviet mountaineering award, given to highly skilled mountaineers. It is still recognized in the Commonwealth of Independent States. The main problem for all Snow Leopard climbers is the fearsome Pik Pobeda, which is considered a very hard climb by all categories of climbers. Many aspiring Snow Leopards have made four out five, but have had to throw in the towel when taking on Pik Pobeda.

Alpinist and adventure photographer Christian Kober is planning to be the first Briton to climb all 4,000m peaks in one year--in order to raise awareness of the snow leopard, which is threatened with extinction, and to raise all-important funds for their conservation.
