Allard Motor Company Limited was a London-based low-volume car manufacturer founded in 1945 by Sydney Allard [1] in small premises in Clapham, south-west London. Car manufacture almost ceased within a decade. It produced approximately 1900 cars before it became insolvent and ceased trading in 1958. [2]

The Allard L-Type was a two-door, four-seat roadster produced from 1946 to 1950, and 191 examples were built. It rested on a 112-inch wheelbase chassis and was powered by either a 3,622cc (221 CID) Ford Flathead or a 4,375cc (267 CID) Mercury V8 engine.

The L-Type utilized Allard's trademark independently suspended split front axle and transverse-lead rear end in a chassis that was 6 inches longer than the contemporary K-type. The extra length was put to good use in the rear accommodating the two passenger seats.

This class is for L, M, and P-type Allards. Although most people know Allard for the J2 and J2X, the bulk of Allard production came from these cars. Of the 1900 or so cars built, these three models represent 65% of total production.

Despite his reputation for building brutal competition machines like the J2X, Sydney Allard simultaneously manufactured a stylish line of road cars, including the K-series two-seat sports cars, and the long-wheelbase four-passenger L Type.

This rare L-Type sport touring car is a right-hand drive example that is beautifully finished in burgundy with gray leather interior, soft-top, tonneau cover and side curtains. The leather is new, as is the Wilton wool carpet.
