The name IC3 indicates simply that it is a three-carriage InterCity trainset. The trainsets were built 1989–98 by ABB Scandia in Randers (today Bombardier ) in 153 copies, of which 96 trainsets are used by DSB .

2017年1月7日 · An Israeli State Railways-operated Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) IC3 Flexliner was on loan to VIA and Amtrak, with the two three-car trainsets touring the country to promote commuter rail systems. Built by ADtranz in Randers, Denmark by a partnership of ABB and Daimler-Benz, the Flexliner trainset operated on diesel or overhead electrical power.

The Danish State Railways’ (DSB) highly successful and innovative InterCity 3 aka IC3 passenger train was co-developed by Siemens -Duewag in Germany and ABB Scandia in Denmark. The train is operated by DSB in Denmark and Sweden, by Renfe Operadora in Spain and by Israel Railways in Israel.
