The GE U36B is a four-axle 3,600 hp (2.7 MW) B-B diesel-electric locomotive produced by General Electric from 1969 to 1974. It was primarily used by the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad and its successors, although thirteen provided the power for the original Auto Train .

A U36B built by GE 11/1971, builder's number 38031. Lettered "BIG RED" on the sides of the cab - the SCL nickname for the auto-train. The nickname originated with former SCL employee Arnie Olson who became auto-train's VP of Operations -- it referred to the locomotives' big red noses.

2018年6月28日 · I guess my question is: if the U36B could have survived, could it have become a commuter or local passenger variant locomotive. Does its chassis have room for a HEP generator? Just look at The GP40-2…dozens of commuter networks (and Amtrak) have different variants of that unit running all over its lines.

I know of one, MCVX/CSX 7764 ex-SCL 1776 Bicentennial unit. Any others? "Why would you take a train to go see another train?" Some people just don't understand. I hope some have been preserved!

2003年10月5日 · Can anyone tell me something about the Pre-Amtrak Auto Train operated with GE U36B? Which company operates it, where does it ride from and to. Has it something to do with todays amtrak auto train?

Atlas’ U33B and U36B model is being offered in both an early and late phase. The early phase model includes flushmounted radiator screens and air intake screens on the long hood. In addition, there is a built-out area on the top of the front and rear pilots.
