Aníbal António Cavaco Silva GCC GColTE GColL GColIH (Portuguese pronunciation: [ɐˈniβɐl ɐ̃ˈtɔni.u kɐˈvaku ˈsilvɐ]; born 15 July 1939) is a Portuguese economist and politician who served as the 19th president of Portugal, from 9 March 2006 to 9 March 2016, and as prime minister of Portugal, from 6 November 1985 to 25 October 1995. Aníbal Cavaco Silva (born July 15, 1939, Boliqueime, Portugal) is a Portuguese politician who served as the country’s president (2006–16) and prime minister (1985–95). Cavaco Silva also served as finance minister (1980–81).

Cavaco Silva entered into politics in 1974 when he joined the Partido Popular Democratico (PPD), and later the Partido Social-Demócrata (PSD). He was elected to the Portuguese Parliament in 1980 and served as the Minister of Finance and Planning that same year.

Aníbal António Cavaco Silva, GCC (born 15 July 1939) served as the 19th President of Portugal. He served from 2006 to 2016. He won the Portuguese presidential election on 22 January 2006 and was re-elected on 23 January 2011, for a second five-year term. Cavaco Silva was sworn in on 9 March 2006.
