The radar homing and warning system (RHAW) was a very important black box installed in F-4s that flew in combat in the Vietnam War. The device gave crews audio and visual input whenever a radar beam struck the Phantom.

When a RADAR beam is pointed at the aircraft, the AN/APR-25 will indicate it the following way: on the scope, a line will appear indicating azimuth to the RADAR station. The length of the line indicates the signal signal’s strength; on the threat warning display the RADAR band and threat type lights will appear as listed above

This installation of the Applied Technology Inc (ATI) AN/APR-25 S/C/X-band radar homing and warning system seems to be a stopgap installation giving time for the development of the total Project Shoehorn fit with the AN/APR-30. It is seen only in aircraft of VF-142 and VF-143 on CVA-64 USS Constellation during its 1967 Vietnam cruise.
