Ann Hui On-wah, BBS MBE (Chinese: 許鞍華; born 23 May 1947) [1] is a film director, producer, screenwriter and actress from Hong Kong who is one of the most critically acclaimed filmmakers of the Hong Kong New Wave.

Ann Hui was born to a Japanese mother and Chinese father in Anshan, Liaoning Province in 1947. She moved to Macao, then to Hong Kong at the age of five. She studied film making at the London International Film School.
