The Monk is a special unit in Age of Empires II that can be trained at the Monastery. Lacking any means to attack, Monks are one of only two units able to convert others' units to the player's side, the other being the Spanish Missionary.

This is why the monk micro tactic of tasking all monks on one unit, deselecting one monk, targeting the next unit etc. works so well - part of the min time is eliminated.

2023年6月19日 · For me, the best Monks are Spanish ones. They convert so fast with Inquisition that the opponent just doesn’t know what hit them. Second is Aztecs, because of the extra hit points. Bohemian Monks are really good too. I suppose the worst ones would be the Mongol, Hun, and Viking Monks, because of how many different techs they’re missing.

2023年2月10日 · Most of the time monks are good in early castle age or whenever you need to get relics. Only monks can pick up relics and bring them to your monastery. Each relic gives an infinite amount of gold with a rate about equal to one villager without upgrades mining gold. In combat, monks can have a big effect by converting enemies to your side.

2017年1月6日 · Saracens - Whilst they have no bonuses of their own, they can research all Monk related techs and their unique upgrade allows them to return 30% cost to the player when killed. My favourite would have to be Byzantine, though.
