Acousto-optic modulator - Wikipedia
An acousto-optic modulator (AOM), also called a Bragg cell or an acousto-optic deflector (AOD), uses the acousto-optic effect to diffract and shift the frequency of light using sound waves (usually at radio-frequency). They are used in lasers for Q-switching, telecommunications for signal modulation, and in spectroscopy for frequency control.
Acousto-optic modulators (AOMs) are useful devices which allow the fre-quency, intensity and direction of a laser beam to be modulated. Within these devices incoming light Bragg di racts o acoustic wavefronts which propagate through a crystal.

An acousto-optic modulator (AOM) is a device which can be used for controlling the transmitted power of a laser beam with an electrical drive signal. It is based on the acousto-optic effect, i.e. the modification of the refractive index of some crystal or glass material by the oscillating mechanical strain of a sound wave ( photoelastic effect ).
We will implement a technique to modelock a long cavity Helium-Neon laser by injecting frequency shifted light from each longitudinal mode of the laser into an adjacent mode. Frequency shifting is accomplished with an acousto-optic modulator (AOM); we explore the operation of the AOM in the first part of the lab.
2019年10月30日 · The dashed dependence is the angle of the exact Bragg synchronism, when the wave vector of sound in a single Central point “is in contact” with the wave surface of the diffracted light.
When the strain is generated by an acoustic compression or rarefaction, an AOM is formed. Because the acoustic signal is sinusoidal, a moving refractive index grating is formed in the device. Like a permanent grating, the various wavelengths are spatially diffracted and separated from each other.
Angles The input Bragg angle is given by: This angle is in the plane of deflection and relative to a normal from the input optical surface. Except for certain AO devices with birefringent crystals, the laser beam can be input into either aperture and at + or - Bragg angle.
2018年5月3日 · An acousto-optic modulator (AOM) is an optical el-ement that modulates the frequency of light by an ap-plied signal, usually in the RF range. The modulation is a result of Bragg di raction caused by the light wave interacting …
Thermal Analysis of Acousto-Optic Modulators and Its Influence
2024年11月15日 · Acousto-optic modulators (AOMs) have been widely used in ultra-stable lasers (USLs) for optimizing its performances. A thermal theoretical model of the AOM, which is made by TeO 2, was established. Based on the model, the temperature coefficients of the diffraction angle and efficiency were calculated to be 4.051 μrad/°C and 0.018%/°C.
