The Ardèche (French: ⓘ; Occitan: Ardecha) is a 125-kilometre (78 mi) long river in south-central France, a right-bank tributary of the River Rhône. [1] Its source is in the Massif Central, near the village of Astet. It flows into the Rhône near Pont-Saint-Esprit, north-west of Orange.

The Ardèche river flows into the Rhône, following a generally southeasterly course. This Karst region is formed of calcareous limestones, where the streams flow in steep-sided valleys separated by sharp crests. With a generally low altitude the Bas-Vivarais enjoys a warm, dry, almost Mediterranean climate.

There are great views from the summit and it is also the source of the River Loire, the longest river in France. Mont-Gerbier-de-Jonc is the second most visited natural highlight in the department after the Gorges de l'Ardeche.
