My two broad theories on this are- 1.) He didn't actually absorb the gods in full, and instead only absorbed a fraction of their powers, like what a psuedo-servant would channel. 2.) He had all their powers, but the powers somehow degraded and disappeared over time, so what's left of him now is much weaker than what he used to be.
