Due to its appearance, it is often mistaken for an Onyc or a Dimorphodon, although closer inspection shows it is more related to raptors and other dinosaurs.

Yutyrannus is a large carnivorous dinosaur that has a long head, a low ridge across its snout, and a pair of horns above its eyes. Its body is covered in thick downy feathers, excluding its hands, feet, and face, where it is more traditionally scaly in appearance. Unlike its larger relative, the Rex, it has long arms with three clawed fingers.
