The "Beep" (also referred to as the SWBLW) is an individual switcher locomotive built in 1970 by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway at its Cleburne, Texas, workshops.

The name most commonly heard in railfan circles, and one that just seems to fit somehow, is the "Beep," a contraction of Baldwin Geep. To be sure, Santa Fe didn't invent the concept of transplanting an EMD 567-series engine into a Baldwin switcher.

Santa Fe's #1460, affectionately known to railfans as the "Beep," works the railroad's Argentine yard sometime prior to the 1995 BNSF merger. The "Beep" (also referred to as the SWBLW) is a one-of-a-kind switcher locomotive built in 1970 by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway at its Cleburne, Texas workshops.

The Beep was one of the very last instances of a Class 1 repowering a Baldwin. Railroads were buying fewer switchers in general, and even the CF7 roadswitchers that Cleburne did produce in quantity had relatively short lives.

2020年11月25日 · The Beep was the prototype that proved it was uneconomical to rebuild Baldwin, Alco and Fairbanks-Morse switchers. Also, EMD had come up with the trade in program to help make it uneconomical and it also controlled the supply of rebuild parts.

2008年9月19日 · BNSF 1460 the "Beep" has been donated to the Barstow museum next to the Harvey House. Although I didn't see it when I was there last monday, its somewhere in Barstow to be delivered to the museum site. The BEEP is scheduled to arrive at the Western America Railroad Museum in Barstow on June 30.
