It featured EMD's 16-cylinder, model 567B prime mover - that could produce 1,500 horsepower - and carried the company's D27C traction motors, which offered as much as 40,000 pounds of continuous tractive effort.

The EMD FP7 is a 1,500 horsepower (1,100 kW), B-B dual-service passenger and freight-hauling diesel locomotive produced between June 1949 and December 1953 by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division and General Motors Diesel.

Announced in late 1990 was a new run of the Roco-produced FP-7. The model was originally offered by Atlas as part of the 1970s line of HO-scale diesels. This new run, delivering in early '91, included variations to the shell with respect to headlights and dynamic brakes.
