Ato Rinpoche was born to Ato Pai Hu and Tashi Tsomo, née Dilgo, in 1933 and was recognised by the 11th Tai Situ as the eighth incarnation of the Tenzin Tulku of Nezang, a Kagyudpa Monastery in Ato, Kham. There he received the education usual for a Lama and completed a three-year meditation retreat.

Ato Rinpoche (1933-2024), the nephew of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, was a master of the teachings and practice of the Kagyü lineage such as the six yogas and Mahamudra as well as Maha Ati, Dzogchen. Born in 1933, Ato Rinpoche was recognized by the Eleventh Tai Situ as the incarnation of Tenzin Tulku of the Kagyu monastery of Nezang in Kham.

2024年5月20日 · The revered senior lama Ato Rinpoche, the nephew of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, and a master of both Mahamudra and Dzogchen practice traditions, died in Cambridge, England, at 7:45 a.m. on 18 May—Guru Rinpoche Day, according to the Tibetan lunar calendar. He was 91 years old.

2024年5月20日 · I was greatly saddened to hear of my uncle, Ato Rinpoche, passing on May 18th, 2024. According to the lunar calendar, Rinpoche passed on the tenth day, the day sacred to Guru Rinpoche, of the most sacred fourth month, Saga Dawa, which is very significant. Ato Rinpoche was born into the Dilgo Family.

No one in Kham knew whether Ato Rinpoche was dead or alive so, when an unknown lama by the name of Vajra visited Nezang Monastery, a monk there named Chökyong Tashi requested a prediction as to whether Ato Rinpoche would ever return. After making his prediction in September 1957, the lama left and was never seen again.
