Atomic spin is an intrinsic form of angular momentum carried by elementary particles, as well as composite particles such as hadrons, atomic nuclei, and atoms. It is measured in multiples of a unit called the Dirac h, or h-bar (ℏ), equal to the Planck constant divided by 2π. Electrons, neutrons, and protons have a spin multiple of 0.5, while pions have zero spin.
