Be sure to observe all safety rules before crawling under the car: transmission in Park (or in first gear if a manual), parking brake on, chock the rear wheels if there is any slope, wear eye protection, be careful of hot exhaust and engine components.

2004年3月1日 · I did my first oil change today using Rhino Ramps to lift the car. These ramps are made of a plastic like material and have a low incline. I was able to drive my Prius up them with no clearance problem. And they provide plenty of room under the car to access the drain plug ( I installed a Fumoto valve) and the oil filter.

2008年3月23日 · It appears that most here use either ramps or a jack and stands. I am not wanting to use either if at all possible. I got on my back today and could see where I could get a ratchet on the plug but I could never get my hand on the oil filter. Is it unaccessible or are any folks here actually doing an oil change without ramps or jacks.

2011年1月25日 · I agree. The flap is the right size and location for an oil change. If you can get the car up 10 inches, it works quite well. Toyota does not include oil change instructions because they want the dealer to service the car. The oil change is just a portion of the entire service.

2005年1月22日 · Rhino ramps (or the cheap clones at Kragen or Pep Boys) are great for changing the oil. If I back into the sloped driveway, the ramps just about level the car when I drive up onto them. A few more tips: Most funnels don't have a long enough neck to do much good. Find one with a longer neck and you don't have to hold it over the fill cap.

2009年11月29日 · I am using Rhino Ramps I bought at Auto Zone, I think mine are 8000 (for 8000 lbs) but they also make a 12000 model. I put a 2 inch plank under them to make sure I can get the oil plug/filter door to swing down enough.

2008年10月10日 · Those commercially sold metal ramps have bent and collapsed on occasion. I have seen ramps tip over sideways on seemingly solid ground. The wood idea is best if you don't make it too narrow. Give it a wide footprint, and it will be safer than the narrow ramps being sold. Stacked wood is how they hold up coal mine roofs, railroad cars, etc.
