2024年8月1日 · Despite the massive effort by the technical field in the early 1980s, it wasn’t until the late 1980s and early 1990s that CAD software became capable enough to be practical in engineering design. Before, drafting was tedious and time-consuming. And the photos below really show it. Looking at them, you can almost hear the rustling paper.

You really realize how far CAD and design software has come. In AutoCAD 2.18 it was the first release with AutoLISP and only had 90 commands.

An evaluation version of AutoCAD-80 (and AutoCAD-86 on the IBM) is now running on the Vectrix, a beautiful $5,000 670x480 display with 511 colors selected out of a menu of 16,000,000. The version for the Aurora is released, and actually sold more copies than the Microangelo version in January.
