In a fixed-wing aircraft, the spar is often the main structural member of the wing, running spanwise at right angles (or thereabouts depending on wing sweep) to the fuselage. The spar carries flight loads and the weight of the wings while on the ground.

Front spar forged cap extends from airplane centerline and outboard of fuselage while rear spar forged cap extends from airplane centerline to aerodynamic break. Spar webs are continuous in high load transfer region. Most of lightly loaded wings for general aircraft adapt a single main front spar and an auxiliary rear spar construction.

In order to facilitate construction of the adaptive elements and their further integration onto the wing section, the structural front and rear spars were composed of main and auxiliary parts (part of the wing box structure and the morphing systems, LE and TE respectively).

The space for auxiliary box is created by providing an auxiliary spar member between front and rear spars. This auxiliary spar is provided based on technical evidence that mere provision of spar should not make main structural box to reduce its bending stiffness and torsional rigidity.

Front spar is located that the wing leading edge slats can be attached to it and rear spar is located such that control surfaces such as flaps, ailerons, spoilers, can be attached to it.
