The Avro 707 (also known as Type 707) is an experimental aircraft designed and produced by the British aircraft manufacturer Avro. [1] It was developed to test the tailless thick delta wing configuration chosen for the Avro 698 jet bomber, later named the Vulcan.

The A.V. Roe & Company (Avro) 707 was a tailless, 'proof-of-concept' thick delta design, that was principally the work of Stuart D. Davies, Avro Chief Designer. It was the experimental investigation into the aerodynamics and low speed characteristics for the design of the 698 jet bomber and of which little was known at the time.

In 1947 the Avro design team were busy working on determining the optimum configuration for the Type 698 jet bomber, which eventually became the Vulcan.

Avro decided that a number of flying scale models of the delta wing would be built to help provide detailed data for the Vulcan project. Two one-third scale aircraft were proposed for low speed research, designated Avro Type 707, and two half-scale aircraft for high speed high altitude research, designated Avro Type 710.
