I remember growing up being exposed to fabric, thread and sewing machines when my mom pursued her love for clothes starting out in our garage.

After her public art installation project in Queens, New York, the Philippine fibre queen weaves her rightful throne as Art Fair Philippines 2022's centrepiece. Aside from being an integral part of the development of our fashion, the cultural tradition of weaving has always been an esoteric practice by our pre-colonial ancestors.

2019年11月25日 · It featured artwork from 13 artists all over the world, including Ong’s. Her installation, “Gender Metamorphosis: Aze Ong, The Philippines,” was made up of more than 50 intricate and colorful crochet pieces hung from the ceiling of KICC’s central walkway leading to the conference rooms.

Modeka is pleased to present “Divine Surrender”, a solo exhibition by Aze Ong, combining for the first time her fiber art with a newfound practice in ceramics. The fiber art of Aze Ong has traversed cities and continents in multiple forms: as large-scale installations, collaborations with audiences and public performance.

Aze Ong (b. 1977) wills fiber into forms of delicate structures that take lives of their own or that flourish into environments or bloom as installations. Her process is intricate as it is intuitive, shaped by thresholds of physical endurance or determinations of duration.
