2017年10月9日 · North American Aviation’s B-45 was the first U.S. Air Force jet bomber, entering service in 1948. Only 139 of them were built. They saw limited service, but a few reconnaissance RB-45Cs saw action in the Korean War. Valom’s kit is a vast improvement over previous limited-run and vacuum-formed versions, but it is not state of the art either.

The Kit. Valom’s North American B-45 Tornado is injection molded in light tan and consists of 105 injection molded parts, including 11 clear parts for the cockpit, nose glazing, and wingtip lights. There are also 8 resin detail parts for the jet intakes and exhausts.

93 parts in tan-colored plastic, 11 parts in clear plastic, 8 resin parts, one photo-etch fret, one instrument panel film, and one decal sheet covering two aircraft. New mold B-45 with nicely inscribed details and panel lines, detailed interior, and quality decals. As a limited production kit, some parts will require clean up prior to use.

2020年9月25日 · I built this kit for the Korean Conflict Group Build. The B-45 was the first 4-engine jet bomber in the Air Force, as well as the first American jet bomber shot down in combat, namely during the Korean Conflict.

The North American Aviation B-45 was one of America’s first operational bombers with jet propulsion. Designed as NA-130 during 1944 and 1945, the Tornado had a straight unswept wing and 4 jet engines in 2 wing nacelles. First flight was February 1947 and it became the first jet bomber in service with the U.S. Air Force.

Martin Company proposed its design and won the competition with designation, XA-45. Soon later USAAF revised its requirement for better close-support bombing. Martin accepted the new requirement and was received contract for two prototypes, the project was redesignated XB-51. The first XB-51 made its first flight on Oct 1949.
