Nakajima B5N Kate - World War Photos
Type 97 Carrier Attack Bomber B5N was the Imperial Japanese Navy’s standard torpedo bomber for the first years of World War II. While the B5N was substantially faster and more capable than its Allied counterparts, the TBD and Fairey Swordfish, it was close to obsolescence by the time of the Pearl Harbor Attack.

The Aircraft Carrier Kaga had 92 B5N2 pilots and crewmen. Photograph above could be one of a couple of group photos taken on December 6, 1941. Kaga lost five B5N "Kate" Torpedo bombers, and fifteen pilots and crewmen.

The Nakajima B5N Torpedo Bomber was the pride of the Imperial Japanese Navy and was considered the most effective aircraft of its kind at the beginning of World War II. She caused most of the battleship damage during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, December 7, 1941.
