The Boeing 737 is an American narrow-body aircraft produced by Boeing at its Renton factory in Washington. Developed to supplement the Boeing 727 on short and thin routes, the twinjet retained the 707 fuselage width and six abreast seating but with two underwing Pratt & Whitney JT8D low-bypass turbofan engines.

The Boeing 737 Classic is a series of narrow-body airliners produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes, the second generation of the Boeing 737 series of aircraft. Development began in 1979 and the first variant, the 737-300, first flew in February 1984 and entered service that December.

As of mid-2020, it remains the most delivered aircraft to date but has been overtaken by the Airbus A320 for orders. First flying in 1967, it has been through several variants since then, each time improving and updating its offering.

The Boeing 737 is the best-selling commercial jetliner in history, with, as of January 2017, orders for almost 14,000 aircraft from 290 customers. Over 9,300 737s have been delivered. With approximately 6,500 airplanes in service, the Boeing 737 represents a quarter of the total worldwide fleet of large commercial jets flying today.

The 737-200 was succeeded in 1984 by the 737-300. This was a much quieter, larger and more economical aircraft and contained a host of new features and improvements. The new model featured many aerodynamic, structural, cockpit and cabin features developed for the new -generation 757/767.
