The Bede BD-5 Micro is a series of small, single-seat homebuilt aircraft created in the late 1960s by US aircraft designer Jim Bede and introduced to the market primarily in kit form by the now-defunct Bede Aircraft Corporation in the early 1970s.

About 25 BD-5Js have flown over the years, mostly as aerial stunt planes for purveyors of liquid refreshment. A dozen or so Microjets are currently active.

The BD-5 was designed in 1973, and proved to be an extremely popular aircraft. The BD-5 is small and lightweight, and can be either single seat propeller or jet driven. The jet version is listed in the Guinness book of records as the world’s smallest jet.

2014年3月3日 · The BD-5J version holds the record for the world’s lightest single-engine jet aircraft, weighing only 358.8 lb (162.7 kg). While the new Hirth engine was being tested, Bede decided to create an unconventional variant of the BD-5 with a small jet engine. The result was the sleek BD-5J, a 300 mph (480 km/h) aircraft.

2022年10月3日 · The homebuilt Bede BD-5J, which first flew in 1971, was offered in kit form by the Bede Aircraft Corporation. Arguably, the epitome of the personal jet is the BD-5J. It has room (barely) for one, a single, tiny jet engine and, oh yeah, you build it yourself.

In 1973, Bede Aircraft introduced a jet-powered version the BD-5J. This aircraft still holds the record as the world’s smallest jet aircraft and is a popular air show performer. The BD-5J was made famous by its appearance in the James Bond film “Octopussy.”

A jet propelled model, the BD-5J, was also sold, powered by a Sermel TRS-18-046 turbojet engine developing 225 pounds of thrust and an airspeed of 300 mph. The Western Museum of Flight restored this aircraft and painted it like the BD-5J (turbojet) which flew in the James Bond movie “Octapussy”
