A key transformation during this decade was the addition of Warrior Week to the BMT curriculum. While it did not change the length of BMT, the incorporation of this reinvented form of bivouac training exposed Airmen to the Expeditionary Air Force concept of operations by living in the field and experiencing their first combat exercise.

The Global War on Terror made for fast paced changes within Air Force basic training. The airmen charged to collect and post the photos have a huge backlog to get through and also don’t have access to all the historical flight photos. They’re relying on donations from former airmen to donate theirs to the cause.

The Minnie K. Martinez 1970's BMT Flight Photograph Archives Still the largest activity at Lackland, BMT remained at the "minimum essential" length of six weeks throughout the decade. Production numbers for the 1970's averaged over 85,000 a year with a decade high of 105,323 in 1971; Vietnam, of course, was the main reason for this.
