2022年11月9日 · Timing chain parts are different on the N47 and N57 Just because of the higher forces due to the 8 more valves that need to be operated. The N57 is not known to have any timing chain issues. More peoblematic is the loss of cooling water due to the exhaust gas recirculation cooler (currently the 3rd one on my 535d N57D30Z). Risk of fire.

2023年8月7日 · I heard from quite a few people that the 3.0 N57 has a lot of issues in terms of reliability, however google searches lead to people saying the N57 is better than the 3.0 M57. The M57 in my opinion is one of the best engines BMW has ever made being both very good performing and very reliable.

2016年8月21日 · The N57 flaps are located on a dowel that runs from the swirl flap actuator. Removal of the dowel allows removal of the flaps and the actuator and DDE will know no different. The carbon build up around the swirl flaps particularly ports 1 & 2 nearest the inlet is clear to see in the first photo.

So, to answer your specific question, yes, I think BMW should recall the N57 (and N47) engines. But, my opinion (and that of almost anyone else) counts for squat at BMW's corporate headquarters. In reality, the problematic engines were built over roughly a 20 month period.

2019年4月26日 · The N57 is much better on fuel, no swirl flap issue, thermostats dont need replacing every service, glow plug sensors are not a serviceable item and the air filter is no a pita to change. I can actually find no reason why you would have the M57 over the N57. And like I said, I run both. The N57 has 172,000 miles on and the M57 has 160,000 miles.
