But once again, I've had the opportunity over the past few weeks to capture (and now share with everyone) some of the few remaining active ATSF and early BNSF era Red & Silver "Warbonnet" painted C44-9Ws (DASH 9-44CW) that still occasionally roam through Southern California.

Starting in 2015, BNSF sent 20 of their ex-ATSF Dash 9s - including number 600 - to General Electric for rebuilding. The rebuilt engines are designated as AC44C4M, and they feature AC traction motors (they originally had DC motors), only four powered axles instead of six and the same traction / control systems as GE’s off-the-shelf ES44C4 and ...

The 600 series dash 9's are mechanically the same as the rest of the BNSF dash 9 fleet, the only real difference is that they use analog style gauges rather then a computer screen and aren't DP equipped.
