Ryu Bateson is a playable character that appears in Breath of Fire II, where he serves as the game's protagonist. Unbeknownst to him, his mother was a member of the Dragon Clan and has passed on her people's hereditary abilities to him.

Ryu is the main protagonist of the story. He is heralded as the Prince of Dragons by those in Dragnier, and by being one of the few remaining Brood left it's up to him to find out why God wanted his people destroyed in the Great War. Like the past Ryu's before him he is a sword user and can wear all heavy armor.

In Breath of Fire 2 you can acquire hidden Dragon Powers for Ryu fairly early on in the game (shortly after getting Jean to join your party). These Dragon Powers are extremely powerful and will help you make short work of most boss fights in the game.

Ryu first meets the Fire Shaman, Sana, and she accidentally unlocks his ability to transform into a baby dragon. The remaining five are hidden throughout the game's world. While locating the shamans is not necessary to complete the game, they resulting fusions can greatly increase the player's chances of success in battle system.

Finding Ryu's Dragon Powers in Breath of Fire 2. Early on in Breath of Fire 2 shortly after you have Jean join your party you'll be able to acquire the Dragon Powers for Ryu. These powers are extremely powerful, however the downside is they consume all of Ryu's AP when used.
