Spar, or Aspara Gus in the Japanese version, is a playable character who appears in Breath of Fire II. The game's end credits reveal his full name to be Aspara Gus, a pun on the real world vegetable of the same name.

Spar is one of the main characters in Breath of Fire 2. He first appeared in a cage in a circus, being taunted by the circus leader about getting eaten alive. One day, Ryu and his group arrived at the circus to free him. They fought off the circus leader, who was another demon, and Spar decides to aid them in their quest to stop the demonic issue.

Spar fused with Seso, either alone or with Spoo, Seny or Shin as a second partner, transforms into a cute pink-haired girl with a mushroom-shaped hat which she throws to attack. Her Ntre ability is replaced with Spor, a copy of the SwtBrth spell except it costs no AP to use and has a chance of backfiring to target the party instead.

Spar is able to cause chaos among the enemy ranks while providing beneficial effects to their allies, since their spells consist mainly of power enhancement, power reducing, and status inflicting spells. Spar is able to cast healing spells and harness the power of ice magic, as well.
