The National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs (NFBPWC) has a history and shared commitment to working women's issues for over 100 years. This drew national attention to wage disparity. Using the "BPW" letters to represent Better Pay for Women, BPW/USA capitalized on the national media attention focused on the red purse. At the Connecticut Convention in 1985, BPW/USA's Legislative Platform expanded to include the Equal Rights Amendment Preamble.
